Lock
Boxlock, with flat chamfered surfaces, the frizzle ogival, the cock with rounded jaws and protruding from a slot in the centre of the upper surface; square frizzle-spring mounted on top of the pan-cover; the lock-casing extends towards the front, and contains a 59 mm deep compartment for tinder which is closed at the front by a lid with a screw button which slides to the left for opening; the slot for the trigger is in the centre of a wide plate which is a continuation of the box and reaches to the pommel; mounted forward on the right side of the box is a tubular iron candle-holder; inscribed on the right face Lambert and Dit Biron on the left.
Stock
With curved flat-sided butt, transversely pierced at the base.
Mounts
None save for an iron bipod mounted underneath the front of the box.
Remarks
(MAKER) The maker of this instrument was probably either Jean Lambert dit Biron, a Liègeois gunmaker recorded, according to Heer/Støckel from 1782 until 1802, or his son Jean Joseph, who worked from c. 1802-1810.
